Advanced Clinical Instrumentation was founded in 2004 by Roger Carpenter, Gareth Jones, Reza Nouraei and Jan Ober to bring together expertise from engineering, computing, neuroscience and the clinic to the design of inexpensive, intelligent devices for improving clinical measurement and diagnosis, particularly in the field of neurology.

An important result of this collaboration between Poznan and Cambridge has been the development of the saccadometer, a micro-miniature device that quickly and non-invasively measures saccadic latencies, with the minimum of setting-up time, and with automated analysis of the results. The saccadometer is the result of a collaboration between the Institute of Biocybernetics and Biomedical Engineering (Polish Academy of Sciences) and Ober Consulting Poland.
